After an intimidating Haka from Rathkeale 1st Team, Warwick responded with a well placed kick off to kick-start the game. A few missed tackles lead to a line break from their 13 which was recovered by Xander and Henry. Unfortunately the lack of numbers in defence lead to a Rathkeale try under the posts. Strong defence from Warwick managed to hold them off but after a few questionable decisions from the referee lead to a scrum on our 5 metre line. Henry Mortimer’s kick was then charged down to give Rathkeale the scrum which they dominated and managed to score on the outside. Another good restart and some solid tackles lead to a Warwick scrum. Some lovely hard lines from Alex Sabin and Jack Williams set up a great team try in the corner scored by Finn Smith which unfortunately wasn’t converted. A poor attempt at catching the ball off the restart caused a Warwick knock on. Solid defence once again and an aggressive tackle from Alex Green gave us a scrum which was followed by some good attacking play and awesome offloads. Some safe hands and strong running put us in their 22. However poor rucking technique gave away a penalty.

HALFTIME – Warwick 5 – 14 Rathkeale

After some half time tactics and a few substitutions we restarted the game with some aggression and attacked with meaning. A cheeky ‘nut-meg’ from Xander caused a line break and a Warwick lineout. Some good attacking play put Harry Spencer under the posts. Some sloppy play gave Rathkeale 3 more points after executing a penalty. A huge hit from Will Banfield. An attacking lineout led to a hard line from Joe Jones to score a great try in the corner which set the scores even once again. A brilliant set of offloads from Will Kelley to Oscar Roberts, who set up Joe ‘the big dog’ Jones for his second try of the day pulling Warwick into the lead. Some awesome hands and a ‘norty’ chip from Finn Smith put Harry Spencer under the posts once more. A brilliant conversion put a smile on everyone’s face and even Oli Sengupta began to look less terrified. Play stopped whilst the man the myth the legend, Oscar Roberts was getting checked for concussion. Did he play on? Of course he did. After another successful lineout and approximately 4 boshes later, the Hulk a.k.a Jack Williams smashes his way over the try line for Warwick’s 5th try.
